I have a good selection of professional high-spec recording equipment to achieve the sound you want. I’ve also extensively researched and developed recording techniques specific to each instrument to get the best possible sound. I can record two or three tracks of each take on separate (equidistant or variable distant) mics (through varied preamps) to give you more options at mix down. These tracks can be blended or used separately as you like.

MICROPHONES…

Vintage Neumann U87 clone – Nice warm sounding classic with soft high end. Large 26mm diagram condenser with Cinemag CM-2480 transformer. Really great on sax or for vintage sounding recordings.

Audio Technica AT4033a pair – Silky and detailed studio favourite. Medium-small back-electret 11.5mm capsule and transformerless circuit. Perfect if you need a really clean, detailed sound.

AKG C535EB – Excellent detailed and bright classic. Small diagram condenser. great for cutting through in a busy mix especially with driven guitars!

SEX1R – Silky, smooth and detailed with softened highs. A modified ribbon mic, with new top quality 2 micron ribbon and hand wound Xaudia transformer. The medium ribbon/long path motor makes this mic great on flute and clarinet. It really tames any shrillness of upper registers while accurately capturing the character of the instrument’s tone.

Shure beta 57A – Excellent all purpose dynamic mic.

PREAMPS…

MP573 matched pair – Clone of the classic 1970’s Neve 1073 console circuit with Carnhill transformers. Warm, full, silky, detailed and very musical. The Neve style is a favourite with most professionals!

MICPRE ONE matched pair – Sharp, crisp, clear and balanced throughout. Ultra clean, transformerless circuit as designed by Graham Langley and used on the Amek M2500 mixing console and the original Angela console of 1982.

XDR2 – These are the nice clean, transparent pres in my Mackie VLZ3 mixing desk. Good headroom and low distortion. A good studio workhorse.

MONITORS…

Not that relevant you may think, but just to let you know, I meticulously check all the recordings I make through professional monitoring systems…

MACKIE HR824 Mk1 – One of the most popular trusted 2 way active near-field monitors, the HR824 is found in countless professional studios, thanks to its clarity, broad stereo imaging, ruler-flat response, and extended low-frequency range.

AVANTONE MIXCUBE – Excellent single driver, shielded, full-range mini reference monitor. The design is inspired by the legacy of the 5C Sound Cubes used in virtually all-major studios for the last 25 years.

SONY MDR7509 HEADPHONES – Probably the most popular Professional Reference Headphone designed for critical listening applications and is the perfect studio monitoring headphone, capable of delivering a high SPL & dynamic range.

SOUNDCARD…

FOCUSRITE SAFFIRE PRO 26 – One of the best interfaces

CABLES…

SOMMER CABLE – Excellent German made cables.

Listen for yourself – the tracks from my solo album “Inner Paths” were all recorded and mixed on the above gear…
